With the euphoria over Gautam Menon's latest movie, "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya" yet to settle down, it is perhaps still pertinent to discuss the film briefly. Alarmingly simple in content and substance, the movie creates ripples on the surface of deep waters, with the director consciously making no attempt to delve further . Ofcourse, the film is a visual treat devoid of harsh melodrama, slapstick comic capers, bloodshed - something highly unusual for a contemporary Tamil film. With more and more film makers taking pride in parading violence, gore and sex in the name of ethnic art and earthy flavours, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya comes as a pretty onerous attempt to appeal to the refined sensibilities of our next-gen. Another striking aspect of the film is the refreshingly realistic portrayal of the nodal characters played by Simbu and Trisha. Effortlessly and spontaneously, both the actors lend a lot of credibility to the situations.
